We're Scott and Rachelle Kelch. When we tell people what we do for a living, we always get the answer "ah, that's just the dream job isn't it?" and yes, it absolutely is!
We've been operating as an official Idaho liquor broker since 2011, and we still get that giggly feeling (the alcohol probably helps) when we meet talented individuals who want to bring their ambitious and delicious spirits to the Gem state. There's nothing we love more than to give brands that Idaho service and sense of adventure that Idaho is known for.
Scott has been in the alcohol business since 2007, when he started a career with an Anheuser-Busch distributor in Austin, Texas. After vacationing to Boise, Scott decided to move to Idaho and secured a position with the local A/B distributor as an On-Premise Sales Rep. After a couple years in the beer business, Scott had the opportunity to advance his career with a local liquor broker. Scott started out as the Boise Sales Rep and soon became the Idaho State Manager. After a year's time, Scott was promoted to Regional Sales Manager covering the Pacific Northwest, all while receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Northwest Nazarene University. Upon the owner’s retirement, Scott started NorthStar Spirits in 2011 and has been the Owner/Founder ever since. Starting out as a small brokerage in 2011 with three suppliers, Scott has grown NorthStar Spirits to become one the most prominent liquor brokerages in the State of Idaho. With a passion for Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, NorthStar Spirits prides themselves in representing small-to-medium-sized distilleries from the region, and beyond. Scott has extensive experience launching brands in Idaho and has been very successful growing them. Scott is also well-versed in bourbon, and has been to Kentucky for Bourbon Fest. He tends to choose bourbon as his drink of choice. When not slinging booze, Scott along with his wife, Rachelle, and their kids, are usually found somewhere in the Idaho mountains fishing, camping, or enjoying an adult beverage in an Idaho hot spring.
Rachelle is a rare Idaho native and attended Pepperdine University in her younger days, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She has a background in marketing and has been successfully running events in the Treasure Valley area for the past ten years. She manages many of our liquor tasting events, from big events like Sip Idaho, to smaller public liquor tasting events inside bars, restaurants, and liquor stores. She also does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work, like completing paperwork for new liquor product listings, invoicing suppliers, social media management, monthly email newsletters, and website updates! In 2019, Rachelle helped clarify some of Idaho's liquor sampling laws to the public, while working with the Idaho State Liquor Division and the Alcohol Beverage Control, to benefit all reps in the state. She founded Sip Idaho in 2019, Idaho's only public all-liquor tasting event! Sip Idaho is an annual event, held in July during Idaho Spirits Month, where the public can come to one place and try all kinds of spirits - whiskies, vodkas, gin, tequila, etc. Visit our sister website at www.SipIdahoEvent.com for more information. When Rachelle isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her son, Wyatt, daughter, Karissa, and husband, Scott. As a family, they enjoy Idaho’s outdoors, including camping, boating, hot springing, and traveling! Rachelle also likes to drink wine which is “not working” on her time off, and enjoys a good highland single malt Scotch or Japanese Whiskey.
