We're Scott and Rachelle Kelch. When we tell people what we do for a living, we always get the answer "ah, that's just the dream job isn't it?" and yes, it absolutely is!
We've been operating as an official Idaho liquor broker since 2011 and we still get that giggly feeling (the alcohol probably helps) when we meet talented individuals who want to bring their ambitious and delicious spirits to the Gem state. There's nothing we love more than to give brands that Idaho service and sense of adventure that the Gem State is known for.
Scott has been in the alcohol business since 2007, when he started a career with an Anheuser-Busch distributor in Austin, Texas. After vacationing to Boise, Scott decided to move to Idaho and secured a position with the local A/B distributor as an on-premise sales rep. After a couple years in the beer business, Scott had the opportunity to advance his career with a local liquor broker. Scott started out as the Boise Sales Rep and soon became the Idaho State Manager. After a year's time, Scott was promoted to Regional Sales Manager covering the Pacific Northwest, all while receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Northwest Nazarene University. Upon the owner’s retirement, Scott started NorthStar Spirits in 2011 and has been the Owner/Sales Manager covering the entire State of Idaho. Starting out as a small brokerage in 2011 with three suppliers, Scott has grown NorthStar Spirits to more than fifteen suppliers in Idaho. With a passion for Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, NorthStar Spirits prides themselves in representing distilleries from the region, also including distilleries from outside the Northwest to round-out their portfolio. Scott has extensive experience launching brands in Idaho and has been very successful growing them, including the top selling flavored vodka in Idaho. Scott is also well-versed in bourbon, and has been to Kentucky for Bourbon Fest. He tends to choose bourbon as his drink of choice. When not slinging booze, Scott along with his wife, Rachelle, their son, Wyatt, and daughter, Karissa, are usually found somewhere in the Idaho mountains fishing, hiking, or enjoying an adult beverage in an Idaho hot spring.
Rachelle is an Idaho native and attended Pepperdine University, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She has a background in marketing and has been successfully running events in the Treasure Valley for the past nine years. She manages all of our liquor tasting events, from big events like Sip Idaho, to smaller public liquor tasting events inside bars and restaurants. She also does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work, like completing paperwork for new liquor product listings, invoicing suppliers, social media management, monthly newsletters, and website updates! In 2019, Rachelle helped clarify some of Idaho's liquor sampling laws to the public, while working with the Idaho State Liquor Division and the Alcohol Beverage Control, to the benefit of all reps in the state. She founded Sip Idaho in 2019, Idaho's only public liquor sampling event! Sip Idaho is an annual event, the weekend following Independence Day, where the public can come to one place and try all kinds of whiskies, vodkas, etc. Visit our sister site at www.SipIdahoEvent.com for more information. When Rachelle isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her son, Wyatt, daughter, Karissa, and husband, Scott. As a family, they enjoy Idaho’s outdoors, including camping, boating, hiking, hot springing, and traveling! Rachelle also likes to drink wine which is “not working” on her time off, and enjoys a good highland scotch. Cheers!
Joe owned and ran a family business and knows what it takes to work hard and play hard. He studied at California State University, Bakersfield. He moved to Coeur d'Alene in June 2020. Joe became interested in spirits after going to a whiskey tasting about 10 years ago, which opened up a whole new side of things for him! When he's not working, Joe enjoys playing golf, racing in Ironman triathlons, and watching golf and baseball on television. He is a family guy and enjoys spending time with his wife, Holly, and his two kids, a son who is 11 and a daughter who is 14. Joe enjoys drinking IPA’s, the bigger the better! He has a wine addiction of around 300 bottles and prefers domestic reds and Bordeaux. In the late evening, you will find him sipping a Bourbon neat. His favorite cocktail is a Gin Gimlet. 2 1/2 ounces of gin, 1/2 ounce simple syrup, and a 1/2 ounce of fresh squeezed lime juice. Shaken and poured in a martini glass with a lime wheel garnish. If you need anything in North Idaho regarding spirits, Joe is your guy!
Wyatt specializes in warming hearts and creating happier customers... just look at that face! He also enjoys organizing (and playing with?!) 50 ml's, because they are just his size. He still has many years to go before he can legally drink, but he's here to add a smile to your day for now!
